My Patent on a New Malaria Drug

United States Patent 6,384,015
Pishevar May 7, 2002

Selective lysis of malaria infected erythrocytes

Abstract

The invention provides methods and compositions for inhibiting the development of intracellular parasites by treating such cells with an effective concentration of a magainin, PGLa or XPF peptide under conditions whereby the development of the parasite in the cell is inhibited. The targeted parasites have been found to increase in the accessibility of the plasma membrane of said cell to the peptide, and particularly, to effect an increase in the cytopathic, especially lytic, sensitivity of the cell to the peptide. In one application, the invention provides methods for treating blood infected with a Plasmodium species, by contacting the blood with magainin 2 under conditions whereby the development of the Plasmodium in the infected erythrocytes is inhibited and the infected erythrocytes evidence relatively increased cytolytic sensitivity to the magainin.

Take Back America

Take back America
New Orleans is a giant mirror that reflected the ever present heart of darkness whose reverberating beat echoes in the back of our consciousness

http://www.iranian.com/Opinion/2005/September/Katrina3/index.html

Shervin Pishevar

iranian.com

I urge all of you to please listen to Mayor Nagin's radio interview. It is important for all of you to listen to this posting as they will change your view of what is happening right now in a visceral and unforgettable way.

As you will see, the people of New Orleans are desperate to survive without food and water and undiscovered in flooded homes around the city.

Earlier tonight I was driving around the Capitol and was surprised to see that none of the flags at the White House, Congress, Washington Monument and more are flying at half-staff. They could care less about poor African Americans from New Orleans. It is not their constituency - it is not who pays their bills and so they act only when forced by public shame to do so.

Let me say something that is hinted at in the pure pain and horror of Mayor Nagin's voice in the interview and in Randall Robinson's blog.

New Orleans is a wake up call for anyone who considers him or herself a true American. America has been usurped by those who do not truly believe in its highest and lofty ideals. It is up to us the silent majority of decent American to wrest back control of our country from these devious smiling racists who pat you on your back but could care less for you as a human being, let alone a fellow citizen. There are two classes of Americans - those Compassionate Americans who truly care for their fellow citizens regardless of race or religion and those Warped Americans who have come to see themselves as superior either by race, religion or combination thereof, to all the rest of the citizenry.

America is an idea, an ideal, and when it ceases to live by its ideals it ceases to be America. A nation based on an ideal lives and dies by it. America has been blessed in that each generation, each wave of immigrants, has revitalized and kept that ideal alive, regenerated, renewed and strengthened. But at the very moment that ideal is forsaken the Nation risks its meaning and its very soul.

Physical security is not ensured by brute force; it is not the steel of our arms but the steel of our character that matters. It is not ever more forts across the globe that will protect us but our moral fortitude.

Our moral fortitude at home has now been exposed for what it is - a house without walls. The levee's that protected America's famed moral compass broke long ago at some undefined and imprecise moment in our history and we have been blindly drowning in the ensuing flooding. It is up to us, the true patriots, to recover and repatch our moral fiber and commit to heal our country of the long festering wounds we have too long chosen to ignore.

As I listen to the news radio I am again not surprised that they are not focusing on these events and the shock of what has happend to the poor and destitute of New Orleans. I recall the coverage after other tragic events from the Tsunami to 9-11 and compared to them we now have radio silence. God Bless the Internet where powers that be have no control and where true citizenry is in full bloom.

I am Caucasian but have African American family from New Orleans in my family. They had to be rescued from their home and thankfully 14 of them are on their way to Tampa to start new lives at my sister and her husband's house. They have lost everything, their history, homes, jobs and they are the lucky ones.

The Great Destruction of the City of New Orleans did not just happen. It was a process arching back many generations before and framed by institutional and culture fissures that are an analogy for the rest of America.

New Orleans is a giant mirror that reflected the ever present heart of darkness whose reverberating beat echoes in the back of our consciousness. In our quest for modern achievement and material success we have all, blacks and whites included, chosen to stifle that heart of darkness that casts a looming shadow in the alleys of our morality.

There is tremendous poverty on the level of some 3rd world countries, right in our back yards, in all of our cities. There is are silent, economic and educational Jim Crow laws that separate and unequally distribute our nations resources to those who have and those who have not.

I urge all of us to take back our country. I urge all true Americans to unite, regardless of color and religion, and take back our country in the 2006 and 2008 elections. I, for one, hope that Mayor Nagin runs for Governor or Senator in Louisiana because amidst all of this tragedy our nation has discovered a true light of humanity that we all would be blessed to lead us into a a future that will never again forsake one kind of American for another.

  History of the Pishevar Name

"Pishevar" (pronounced PEEH-SHEH-VAR) is an ancient Persian-Iranian word from with Aryan language or Old Persian root meaning "businessman", "craftsman" or "creator of jobs." There are variations on the spelling of this word and name such as Peshehvar, Pishevari, Pishehvar. The Aryan language or Old Persian is the ancient Persian tongue spoken by the Achaemenid Kings. It was the vernacular speech of the Achaemenid emperors, localized in Persia in the southwestern Iran. The most famous Achaemenid King was Cyrus the Great (or Kuros/Kourosh), who was celebrated in the Bible for freeing the Israelites from Babylon and rebuilding the temples of Jerusalem.

The Pishevar name is a rare one and our estimates are that there are probably less then 200 people in the world with the Pishevar name. I am not sure if the city of Peshawar has its roots in the word Pishevar. Given that that territory used to be part of the Greater Persian Empires of the past it is not unreasonable to suspect a relation in the name. If anyone knows for sure please do contact us so we can add such evidence to this page.

History of the Pishevar Family

The Pishevar family is originally from Iran in a province known as Zanjan from a small village called Sulayman Bolaghi (meaning Soloman's Spring). Solayman Bulaghi was known for a natural spring that was said to have been visited and blessed by the Prophet Soloman. The area was know for a particular poisonous snake and the only place the snakes would not be found was around Soloman's Spring. It was said that since the spring was blessed the snakes would not

The Pishevar family were known for being very tall and strong (one of our great uncles was over 6' 5" with many others over 6' tall) and lived long lives (our great grandfather lived to the age of 100) and were pious and knowledgable. They were also known for their light features with a particular green and blue  and hazel eye color showing up in many Pishevar family members.

In the early 19th century some of the family moved to Bandar Anzali (known then as Bandar Pahlavi).  Hassan Pishevar, my great grandfather, was a businessman, merchant and Captain of one of the largest ships on the Caspian Sea in the early 20th Century and carried on merchant trade between the Soviet Union through Baku, Azerbaijan and Iran. He spoke fluent Russian, Turkish and Persian. Hasssan married Boyook Saddloui.  Boyook Khanoom means "the highest in rank, respect and leadership" for a lady. Her brother Dr. Saddloui was a successful businessman in the Northern areas of Iran. Hassan Pishevar had 4 sons from his marriage with Boyook Khanoom. My father, Dr. Abraham Hassan Pishevar, Ph.D., was the third oldest son. When our father, Dr. Pishevar, was only 6 years old his mother died from tubercolosis. When he was 11 years old his father also passed away and our father and his 3 brothers were orphaned. They were raised by their Aunt "BB" (their father's sister) who was a very loving and caring woman who raised the Pishevar boys to be strong in the face of the adversities they were facing at such young ages in their lives.

From a young age Dr. Abraham Pishevar was a survivor. Without his mother at 6 and without his father at 11, left to die in morgue by inattentive hospital workers when he was seriously ill with a bout with malaria, our father was tested harshly by the realities of life as a young child. With his Aunt BB's care and his own internal strength he grew into a tall, handsome, intelligent and driven young man who by the age of 27 was a dynamic and in demand writer and journalist in the big city of Tehran. At the age of 29 he met our loving mother Eshrat Kordary Pishevar in at Tehran University where they were both in the same class. The two quickly fell in love and with the blessing of her father, the great and decent Kazem Kordary, the two were married in 1966. They moved into a small apartment in the "Coca Cola" disrict of Tehran, near the Coca Cola factory. My father was hired at the State Radio and Television Company as a journalist and was quickly promoted through the ranks. My mother began teaching at an elementary school. In 1968, my brother, Afshin Pishevar, was born. Two years later in 1970 my sister Bita Pishevar was born. Four years after that in 1974 I was born. Originally, my name was to be Cyrus Pishevar but my father changed it to Shervin ("Share-Veen").  Shervin was the name of a king in the northern parts of Iran that was famous for expelling foreign invaders from Iran.
